Welcome back to the 2nd part of the RTR limited review, this edition covers the blue cards and how they will be in limited this time around, of course, no Mythic rares or rares are covered in here as each are unique and i'll talk about them in a later edition, with that here's a reminder of the system i use to grade these for limited.
A - Very Good, draft this at all times in this color.
B - Easily playable, focuses heavily on the color in question
C - Middle of the Road, splashable and semi playable.
D - Sideboard Material, for tough matchups only.
F - Never play this, ever.
So with that in mind, let's begin part 2 of this review, Blue.
#29) Aquus Steed - D, unless you wanna play this in some janky control/mill strategy in limited, avoid this at all costs, it's power/toughness ratio sucks, it's 4 cmc cost overall makes it unplayable and it's ability is of those things you should avoid unless you magically drafted the Jace of this set.
#30) Blustersquall - B, Blue's specialty to my knowledge has always been midrange control/keeping the opponents locked down, for a 1 mana instant to tap something down or the overload cost of 4 seems like this makes it playable in some sense, since this is a instant speed Sleep
#31) Cancel - B, One of those required blue spells of choice, since counter magic is something that makes or breaks blue players usually, maybe 1 or 2 of these in a nice control deck will make it seem easier to play.
#32) Chronic Flooding - C, Unless you intend to drown out their resources early on, in a some what playable mill strategy, this seems like one of those cards that is very splashable, can be a nice game ender if played correctly and is one of those simple 2 drops which works.
#34) Crosstown Courier - B, It's power/toughness ratio is the reason this gets a nice rating, it's ability though requires a lot of fostering, IE: Making him unblockable turn after turn, but if he gets in there, he'll not only do damage, but drown out the resources as well.
#36) Dispel - C, I don't expect blue players to take this as often, since it counters only instants, but this is great for a counter spell war, which there will not be very many of in this format, one of those required instances where it's maybe alright to throw 1 in a nice control deck.
#37) Doorkeeper - B, In limited it seems like Mill is the definite strategy for a lot of blue players this time around, focusing more so on that then anything else, a 2 drop 0/4 is always nice, plus it's ability is pretty solid and sometimes can be a game ender for the limited format.
#38) Downsize - C, Semi splashable here with it's overload cost being a mere 3 mana and fits any control player's strategy quite nicely for a single turn, though it only does -4/-0, it's still a decent card otherwise.
#39) Faerie Impostor - A, One of those 1 drops in blue you gotta have for limited, a 2/1 flyer that bounces a creature you control is a nice downside if you ask me, sure it's a uncommon, but for what it does it's certainly going to get there fast.
#40) Hover Barrier - B, Oh wow, a 2 and a blue for a 0/6 with defender and flying, not since the days of Ilusionary Wall and the like have i seen this type of card come back, i mean it's a solid body for the 3 mana investment, easily playable in just about any strategy for blue.
#41) Inaction Injuction - B, Detains plus drawing a card for 2 is pretty good i hear, plus since it replaces itself it makes itself more reliable as a spell, a nice common for the color.
#42) Inspiration - A, No questions, this is a must draft for pretty much any reason for playing blue, 4 mana instant speed draw 2, sure, i'll take it, even if it costs 4 i'm still drafting this high, just due to card draw being that good.
#43) Isperia's Skywatch - D, Sorry detain saves it from getting the first F rating of my review for the set, sure a 3/3 for 6 is good and all, plus it flies, but that's all it really is useful for, another late game flyer.
#45) Mizzium Skin - C, Easily playable in these colors and grants hexproof for all your creatures for a mere 2 mana, plus that +0/+1 bonus is always nice, a nice solid common.
#46) Paralyzing Grasp - B, Control players value lock down stuff, this is no exception, Blue/White are best buddies due to this rule, 3 mana aura to lockdown a creature is always nice in this format, plus it's a common, which makes it super effective.
#47) Psychic Spiral - C, Who put this in this set, seriously this is super ridiciulous for limited, 5 mana to reshuffle your graveyard into your library and mill a opponent for the amount of cards reshuffled at sorcery speed, if it was instant speed, this thing would be super broken.
#48) Runewing - B, I like solid 2/2's that have flying for a mere 4, it's a preference, but this one when it dies it draws a card to replace itself, plus it's common rarity makes it nice and playable for a beater in the air.
#50) Skyline Predator - D, Such a waste of a 3/3 for it's cost, it's only redeeming qualites are flash and flying, but for 6 mana it's hardly worth the investment for the format, almost gets my first F rating of the review.
#51) Soulsworn Spirit - C, Only redeeming factor here from being sideboard only is the detain and unblockable factors for 4 mana, it's uncommon rarity is nice and balanced and makes it hard to draft, being one of those middle of the road cards for the format in this color.
#53) Stealer of Secrets - B, Card draw off combat damage is always nice, considering how little of these kinds of cards exist for the format, it's common rarity makes it one of those high priority picks in this color.
#54) Syncopate - B, One of the only counter spells in this lone color, the better ones being in the multicolor this time around, it exiles whatever it counters, whether it'd be a legendary, etc, a nice way to stop the opponent's best thing from hitting the board.
#55) Tower Drake - C, Semi playable only due to the flying ability it has, but a 2/1 body is still a nice Welkin Tern for 3 even if it's ability requires a allied color mana.
#56) Voidwielder - D, 5 mana to get a 1/4 that bounces your stuff is just a not playable card, regardless, i mean we have that Faerie for crying out loud in this color.
Well with that that is all she wrote for Blue this time, in terms of the limited cards of choice, stay tuned tommorow for Black.
